If you don’t want any icon/image/text to display as Story icon then you can display simple dot in place of Icon.
Here are the options to hide Icons :
Story Timeline >> Content >> Timeline Stories >> Item >> Advanced >> Display Icons
Post Timeline >> Content >> Advanced Settings >> Show Icon
